At Chicago Piano Restoration, we would be happy to provide you with a formal assessment of the value of your piano for insurance, sale, or other purposes. During an evaluation, the piano technician will inspect every piano component, including all action parts, belly(plate, soundboard, strings, tuning pin stability, etc.), cabinet, structural integrity, and the overall condition of the piano

tuning

Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of an acoustic piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune.

stringing

Includes all-new custom-made strings, new or existing pin-block, new Julius Klinke Neuenrade tuning pins, plate felting, and more. 

Piano refinishing

Includes taking apart all case parts then striped to bare wood, we will treat the wood and sand it down, the piano is then stained to costumer preference, after allowing the stain to fully dry one light coat of sealers is applied, once the sealer has dried, we will sand it down and apply 8-10 coats of lacquer (sand between each coat) piano then is stored in a special room to dry for 30 days, after drying procedure we will sand it down using 320, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000 grit sandpaper, we will then rub it out using special compounds.

Voicing

Adjustment of the tone or quality of a piano sound. Chicago Piano Restoration can voice a piano to change its tonal personality from mellow to bright or robust to delicate.

action regulation

Adjustment of the mechanical aspects of the pianos to compensate for the effects of wear, compacting, and settling of cloth, felt, and buckskin, as well as dimensional changes in wood and wool parts due to changes in humidity.

piano moving

Chicago Piano Restoration, Inc. Offers in home (room to room) piano moving, local piano moving, state to state piano moving and piano storage. Our piano moving personal are insured, well experienced individuals that have been moving pianos from 5-20 years experience. Moving a grand piano from one location to another requires specialized piano moving equipment, we will carefully inspect and take notes on the pianos outside condition pointing out any damages, important to check and make sure that the piano legs are solid and safe. Piano is then covered with special padded piano cover to prevent any damages while being transported, piano then will be placed on its side on a piano skid, strapped down and up on a dolly. In case of stairs its important to cover them to make sure that there is no damage done while piano is being transported.
